Integrated with our in-house plasmid preparation platform and 130+ ready-to-use vectors, we provide a seamless, one-stop workflow—from design to research-ready plasmid.

What Is De Novo Gene Synthesis?

De novo gene synthesis refers to building a DNA sequence directly from a designed digital sequence rather than amplifying it from an existing biological template. For researchers, this means a gene can be designed, optimized, assembled, cloned, and sequence-verified even when the natural template is unavailable, difficult to amplify, or unsuitable for downstream experiments.


As part of a custom gene synthesis workflow, de novo DNA synthesis can support protein expression, antibody discovery, synthetic biology, CRISPR-related construct design, and custom plasmid development.

FAQ— Custom Gene Synthesis

When to Use Custom Gene Synthesis Instead of Traditional Cloning?

A synthetic gene is needed without an available natural template.

Codon optimization is required for a specific expression host.

Multiple variants, mutants, tags, or fusion designs are needed.

The sequence contains high GC, repeats, toxic regions, or other difficult features.

A cloned plasmid is preferred instead of a linear DNA fragment.

Sequence-verified clonal DNA is needed for downstream research.


Can Quintara synthesize complex genes?

Yes. Quintara's Regular Gene Synthesis supports complex sequences such as high-GC regions, repeats, toxic genes, and ultra-long constructs up to 200 kb. Complex genes are evaluated after submission and may require additional time or fees.

What is the turnaround time for gene synthesis?

Simple Regular Gene Synthesis projects can be delivered in as fast as 3–5 business days depending on gene length. Abgene Synthesis supports eligible antibody-focused genes with 4-business-day production. Longer or complex genes may require additional time.

What QC is included with Quintara gene synthesis?

Sanger sequencing is included as standard QC for 100% sequence accuracy. Optional Nanopore whole-plasmid sequencing is available for broader plasmid validation, including insert, backbone, and junction regions.

What vector options are available?

The default cloning vector is pUC57, and Quintara also provides access to 130+ ready-to-use vectors for custom plasmid construction and downstream molecular biology workflows.

Can gene synthesis be combined with plasmid preparation?
